Hi, we're Brittin Builders.

We are second-generation Hawke’s Bay builders. Our first new home builds in the 1960s are now part of the fabric of the local landscape, and our reputation as one of New Zealand’s leading heritage home renovation experts has become firmly established.

In 1967, 25 year old Roger Brittin began a building apprenticeship with the construction of a modern brick and timber homestead at 475 St Georges Road, in Havelock North.

Fast-forward 50+ years and that same homestead is not just home to Roger’s five strapping grandsons, but headquarters for the building company he founded. It now employs more than 20 full-time staff and includes an on-site joinery workshop and painting business.

From the age of 10, Roger’s son, Jason, was a regular on-site during school holidays, and he began a formal apprenticeship at Brittin Builders at age 15. In 2010, Jason took over the business and is now building homes for the children of some of Roger’s very first clients.

The Company expanded its capabilities with the addition of established business, Parkhill Joinery, in 2015. This solidified Brittin’s already firmly established reputation as an expert in heritage home building and renovation, and enabled Brittin builds to be supported seamlessly with bespoke, high quality joinery while continuing Parkhill’s relationships with many other New Zealand builders.

In order to maintain Brittin’s exacting requirements for quality workmanship, Brittin Painting was created in 2018 and follows the same model as Parkhill - supplying expert services to both Brittin projects and other independent builders.

With five sons, Jason reckons he has a ‘good shot’ of passing on the torch to the next generation of Brittins, proving it's not just historic Hawke’s Bay homes that can last into the future but the proud building tradition of a Havelock North family as well.

Our Values

Quality

The driving force behind every Brittin build can be summed up with three words: quality, quality and quality. This means renovated homes that end up better than how they began their life, and new architectural builds that will become the future classics of the Hawke’s Bay landscape. Jason’s hope is that in 100 years, the homes Brittin builds today will be the ones that future generations of Brittin Builders are renovating.

Heritage

While quick, cheap builds with mass-produced materials dominate New Zealand’s current building landscape, Brittin Builders stand proudly for something very different.

Authenticity, creativity and a beautiful partnership between old methods and new technology are central to all Brittin projects.

Relationships

Jason and his team seek relationships with home owners who share our values and want to travel a journey together built on trust and strong communication.

It’s no surprise that many of Brittin’s clients end up as friends, and that relationships with Hawke’s Bay families span generations.

Our Team

The Brittin and Parkhill teams are made up of more than 20 professionals who have a shared belief in the value of quality work and bespoke homes. Jason oversees the strategic and creative direction of each project, which has its own team leader to maintain constant communication with the client at each stage of the journey.

Read Biography

Described by husband and business partner Jason as having 'outstanding human navigation skills', Emily is pivotal in ensuring the engine that drives a large team forward remains in tip-top shape. Supporting the team and overseeing future strategic direction are among her strengths. She also has an extraordinary ability to keep smiling in her kitchen every morning, while getting 5 little boys out the door to school and welcoming about 20 big boys in for the morning meeting (boots off, please, guys!).

Brittin Builders enabled us to achieve a stylish and functional home out of a much loved family cottage. Jason made our building experience so easy with his can-do attitude. He guided us through the process from its first inception as an idea to getting it drawn, into council and ultimately built into a great family space. It is now perfect for entertaining and enjoying with our friends and family - including the Brittins!
